Spring’s Promise

At times, winter can be so long and discouraging that it’s hard to believe better days will come again. This past winter, we all endured disparaging economic, political, societal and health issues all while being hit with some of the worst winter weather in decades. I’m sure all of us just wanted to hit fast forward on life and go to a better place. This painting was my way of escaping and I hope it gives you a place to escape to as well. This painting is about a sudden burst of light from an evening sky as the rest of the landscape falls under nighttime’s blue and grey hues. The cows have come in for a fresh drink of water as the fireflies just barely begin their nightly dance. A trophy large mouth bass jumps after a dragonfly, giving the farmers a good reason to drop what they’re doing and get in the boat and fish. But the homestead residents have been planting, and their busy work isn’t quite yet done for the day. As I was painting I was struck with the hidden meaning behind the wagon laden with flowers and the work it was taking to plant them. Those who sow in tears, reap in joy. I know all of our hard work of sowing towards our lives this past year was often tear filled, but a time of joy is ahead! That is “Spring’s Promise”.
